Rearcross U-11's 2 - Lough Derg Vikings 2

Rearcross hosted Lough Derg Vikings in this well contested league game at Rearcross FC Grounds on Saturday and divided the spoils on a two all score line. The home side showed the early prowess creating the better of the chances although, Cathal Kennedy reacted well in the fourth minute to deny the Ballina side with a smart save. The woodwork denied Rearcross when Cillian Kennedy set up Patrick Dawson, however the well struck effort came off the crossbar. Rearcross took the lead on ten minutes when a good move down the right flank saw Cillian Kennedy send a low pass across the box to Patrick Dawson who made no mistake with a fine finish. The visitors were also have their moments as Sean Malone and Paul Nolan defended stoutly to keep the score line intact. A flowing move involving Cillian Kennedy, Patrick Dawson and Eoin Sheldon opened the Lough Derg defence with Eoin Sheldon unlucky not to find the target. Lough Derg were back level a minute before the break when Tadgh O'Shaughnessy broke through the centre before doing well to prod inside the upright. Full credit to the hosts who pulled a goal back in injury time when Aidan Bryan combined with Cillian Kennedy who fired on target with the keeper doing well to parry, however Patrick Dawson had read the situation and kept his composure to put Rearcross back in front. Lough Derg piled on the pressure in the second half with Cian O'Toole and Jack Morrissey doing well under pressure. The Vikings laid siege on the Rearcross goal, Sean Malone and Brian Nolan cleared off the line to avert the danger while Andy Kinnane made a timely interception on the edge of the box seconds later. The pressure eventually paid off when Matthew Power snatched an equalizer for Lough Derg four minutes from time. Rearcross didn't give up and were unlucky not to take all three points when Colm Lenihan raced through on the left and was luckless to see his low effort finish in the side netting. In any event, a draw was deemed a fair result on the day. Rearcross will regroup and prepare for their next game with an away friendly against Peake Villa on Saturday 29th December.
